I cannot believe it. Our little baby turned 9 months old on the 12th (I know, I'm a week and a half late in posting this but cut me some slack...I've been busy). I know all mom's have said this, but it's just crazy to think about how fast they grow.It seems like just yesterday that auntie
Coffey gave me a huge bag of adorable boy clothes...and I was thinking that he would NEVER fit into those clothes (this was when I was pregnant with him) and now Miles is wearing most of those clothes (9-12 month sizes)...CRAZY!
Well, we went for our (not-so) big boy's 9 month check up the other day, and although our guy is on the small side, the doctor said he is developing wonderfully...he's actually ahead in his mental and physical development (thanks to Galen's genes I am sure).
Here are the stats:
Weight: 17 pounds 8 oz (10%...yes 10%...I think Ava was 60% at this age!!)
Height: 28" (45%)
Head: 48 cm (get ready for this....98%!!!)
So, as you see from the stats...my kid has a very small body and a VERY BIG head (this is also thanks to Galen's genes). I'm going to chalk that up to having very big brains and leave it at that. I do think he's grown into his head lately, and it doesn't look like a hot air balloon quite so much anymore, but then the other day I tried to put a 12 month shirt over that noggin and it wouldn't fit...yikes (sorry Miles)!
Okay, now that we've gotten that out of the way, lets talk about how great my kid is shall we?
Miles could quite possibly be the easiest baby on earth. Honestly, I'm so lucky. He is so even tempered and easy going. Always jabbering and laughing and smiling. Hearing him laugh and seeing him smile up at me is one of the best parts of my day. He now calls for me by "Mama" and has just started crawling up to his dad with a "Dada". I can't tell quite yet but it seems he's been calling Ava "AhAhAh" it's just too cute.
Developmentally, Miles is ahead of the game. This is great to hear for first time moms, but when you already have a kid, hearing the doctor say your baby is about to start walking is not great news. But...never-the-less...Miles is very close to walking. He is standing unsupported and trying to take steps (then that heavy head of his gets in the way and TIMBER! This explains the numerous bruises on his forehead). OH...and I don't think I've mentioned this but he can crawl. For a while there I thought he was only going to scoot around life, but he started crawling about a month ago and he's EVERYWHERE. Speaking of which, this kid gets into everything. He B-lines it the minute a door opens. He's gotten into many a waste basket, pulls all the toilet paper off the roll, splashes in the toilet (yes, I said toilet) eats the dog food... you name it. 100% boy.
Much to our dismay (and pleasure at times) he's already very good at trying to get his big sister in trouble. Although she does bother him at times, Ava can just walk by Miles without even touching him and the kid will scream like he's been punched in the face. He's got his fake scream/cry down pact, and uses it with reckless abandon on his sister. It really is quite funny. I think I need to read him "The Boy Who Cried Wolf."
Miles now has his 2 bottom teeth. This is more than Ava had at this age, she didn't get any teeth until after she turned one! It's crazy to me that he is so skinny because I've never seen a baby chow down as much as he does. He eats anything I put in front of him (pretty much everything we eat at this point), and clears his try and signs for "more"...then I feed him more, then he signs for more again...guess this explains why I have to change a poopy diaper 6 times a day!!!
We've been so fortunate to have such a great sleeper in Miles. He's always slept through the night (again, Ava didn't do this till after one) he's sleeping about 10 hours a night, and taking two naps a day (he's finally napping for more than 45 minutes at a time, now we're onto an hour to 2 hours per nap). I love going to get him from his crib when he wakes up, it's so nice to be greeted with his goofy grin. Speaking of sleep, he will not settle unless he has his blue blankie and his alligator which I have to wash constantly cause they smell like spit-up, yuck.
So, there you have it! Our little guy is becoming a little person right before our eyes. As sad as it is to think he won't be a baby much longer, I'm so excited to see what he'll develop into in the months to come...We love you Miles!
